HVAC-Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning is a growing field. In today’s modern world comfort is a big part of our lives. Being certified in your chosen field of HVAC is a great way to show your employer your value and that you can get the job done right every time. Most states don’t require you to be certified to work on HVAC systems, however being certified can help your get a better salary and preference over none certified workers.
What does an HVAC worker do?
HVAC technicians repair, install and maintain heating and air-conditioning equipment as well as all related parts. You would work with pumps, motors, compressors, fans, ducts, sheet metal, thermostats and other electronics switches. This is a very physical job that may require heavy lifting and stretching and well as long hours depending on where and what environment you work in, some work is high up and also in very cramped area’s under buildings and floors. If you are afraid of small spaces or high places beings a HVAC technicians may not be for you.
How much can you make?
Base Salary can be from $10 an hour’s for someone just starting to learn to $50.00 for a certified seasoned professional. Where you work and who you work for can make a big difference in pay. For example if you work for a industrial company such as one of the big corporations in one of their factories you can make a lot more than working for a local heating and air-conditioning contractor. Where can I get training?
Start at your local community college or technical school once you have learned the basic’s, most school can help you get on the job training or tell you where you can find it. Most of the training is hands on and is learn as you go work.
HVAC Job outlook?
The outlook for HVAC Technicians is good, the national average is not really high, but the national bureau of employments expects the job market to grow by 9% from 2006-2016. Skilled people will always be in need and people will always want to be warm-cool and comfortable.
